Digital-Davo > This shows how a colour cast can be corrected using a White Balance Card. The shot was taken in RAW mode using the ambient lighting in the kitchen. There is a skylight but also halogen lighting, and also a brown floor with bluish/grey cupboards. You can see the shot looks yellow and skin colour is weird. I also took a white balance shot with a WhiBal - a plastic card that is certified 18% grey. After using the eye dropper in LightRoom to choose the white balance, I applied that to all the shots in the shoot and voila - a better skin tone than I could twiddle myself. I should have tried a quick JPEG with auto white balance shot straight away to see how it performed. Maybe next time if I'm keen.
Digital-Davo > Well the lovely Dell 24'' arrived. Cool I thought, I'll just plug it into my old PC while I get my new one organised. Alas my video card can't drive 1920 x 1200 so no go. Crazy, but you need 256Mb of RAM to drive a big monitor like this ! Thats 4 times what I had for years under win98.

So let's try it as a telly. Found a simple crappy old composite cable and plugged it into our cheapo LG combod DVD/VCR. You get a square image with ghosting and pixellation. The image is bright and pretty but not clear :( So off to Dick Smith to get some component cables. $50 for 3 little cords ? what a ripoff. Re-cable it all to discover that the player will only drive the component interface for a DVD and not the VCR/tuner. So telly is still in drunk mode.

Buuuut finally we have a widescreen television for DVDs. And wow it is gorgeous. The screen fills out and you get crisp colours and clear edges. I can't imagine what HD is going to be like if normal DVDs look so good !

OK so we are several years behind on television - our last one was a 51cm LG from 12 years ago - and this won't actually be our new telly, but it was fun have a play with how it all plugs together.

The Dell has a DVI-D connection (which I plan to use for the new PC), VGA, S-Video, component and composite and a few USB bits and pieces. Can't wait to see the WOW when I get it singing with the latest and greatest and prettiest from Redmond.
Digital-Davo > The regular saturday morning riding mob that start at BikeForce South Perth - well at least those who are wearing the Livingston Optical jerseys. Optician Sharon subsidised them, they look pretty neat hey ! There are 70 of them out there. Points for spotting them on the road.

Digital-Davo > Finally got my new pc singing and dancing. Almost need sunnies in order to be able to look at the thing.
Digital-Davo > Finally the Windows Reliability Index is on the rise again. I'm on the way up at 2.66 (and climbing) now that I have a new motherboard that can actually stay up. No more read X's in Miscellaneous Failures row - yay. Looking forward to not even looking in here soon.
Digital-Davo > Oh so helpful on the phone, but oh so terrible with numbers. This is what arrived this week, a replacement CC that is valid for 1 month in 2 years time. This is just one of a few sad errors recently from Virgin Money. Looks like my holiday will be without a credit card now as there isn't enough time to get a replacement for my replacement for my expiring card :(

It takes quite a while to fix these sorts of problems. bum.
